Salt factory visit in Puttalam

The name "Puttalam" may be derived from the Tamil word “Uppu-thalam” translating to “salt-area”. Actually, the large Puttalam Lagoon is one of the major salt production zones of Sri Lanka. Besides fisher and salt production, shrimp farms and coconut plantations play a major role in the region’s economy.

Hindu Temple in Chilaw

Chilaw is famous for the nearby Munneswaram temple, which is visited by both Hindus as well as Buddhists. The Munneshwaram Kovil close to Chilaw is one of the 5 major Shiva temples of Sri Lanka and Rameshwaram islands, called Ishwarams.
