Madu River Boat Safari

Surrounded by a thick jungle of mangroves and clear waters, Madu Ganga is one of the most prolific rivers in Sri Lanka. The most important asset of the fragile eco-system of Madu River is its mangrove forests. These mangrove forests are providing the protection for a large number of aquatic bird, animal and plant species. The eco-system in Madu River is the home for different kinds of aquatic plants, crabs, shrimps, fish, insects, amphibians and many other animal life including crocodile (Sri Lanka crocodile). Madu River is inhabited by a large number of animals and its bio-diversity is at very high level. The Madu River boat ride at Madu estuary is a journey that enthrals you with its captivating rich natural vegetation and living beings.

Turtle Hatchery

Stop off at Turtle Hatchery Hikkaduwa to meet the little critters born and raised at this conservation center. Marked by a number of colorful turtle murals on the outside wall, this beachside facility aims to protect populations of olive ridley, leatherback, green, hawksbill, and loggerhead turtles. The center includes a sandy area where the turtles hatch under small hills, and multiple tanks where you can see the variety of species swimming around. You even get the chance to release some of the infants back into the wild.

Stilt Fishing

Stilt Fishing is one of the most interesting traditional fishing methods of Sri Lanka. The beautiful sight of fishermen perched branched poles as they fish skillfully during dawn, noon and dusk; can now be commonly along the southern coast in towns such as Koggala, Kaththaluwa and Ahangama. Occasional stilt fishermen can also be seen amongst the waters of Madu River, etc.

Galle City & Galle Fort

Galle, the beautiful capital of the Southern Province, boasts of a long history stretching back centuries, even before the Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial days. The Galle Fort is the best preserved and most intact fortified city built by the former European colonial powers in Asia. It was declared an archeological reserve by the UN since 1969. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The narrow streets of Galle are lined with Dutch merchant villas, pillared verandahs, carved doors and windows. It is a living heritage city with residents walking the old ramparts at sunset.

On completion of this tour, you will be driven back to your hotel or Katunayake International Airport for Departure.
